My name is Jamini Roy. I am one of the greatest Indian painters of the 20th century. Most of you may know me from the portrait "Santhal Mother and Child". My work was popular in the Bengali middle class and European community. I was born in 1887,in the district of Bankura. I feel I got most of my passion from my father,Ramataran Roy. He was a middle class man who resigned from government service to pursue his interest in art. When I was 16 I enrolled myself in the "Government School of Art".</span></span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: lime;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> </span></span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: lime;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br />
